Cruise past pier 66, one of the iconic Fort Lauderdale attractions!
Riverfront Cruises boat tour will take you to one of the mainstays of Fort Lauderdale's skyline and an attraction that every local resident is familiar with.
Fort Lauderdale is on the cusp of the final stages of its dramatic transformation from Spring Break Central into a more mature resort city of fine attractions. New and ever more luxurious hotels are popping off the drawing boards every day, and the tide of new money just keeps pouring in. One of the places that has been here for a while is the Hyatt Regency Pier 66, a Buck Rogers fantasy building plopped into luxurious gardens. Its marina is one of the best in the area.

Like a rocket about to take flight, the main building at Pier 66 appears to be ready for takeoff. The building is almost endearing in its quirkiness. Few architects today would have the hubris to create such a singular building. Seventeen floors of angular balconies around a central core are crowned with a spaceship of a revolving restaurant.

Built by the Phillips 66 petroleum company, the hotel uses "66" as a benchmark. each side of the hotel has 66 windows and there are 66 spikes on the revolving lounge. The beautiful grounds are flanked with lower garden wings, but these appear to be more like typical Florida apartments.

The oldest parts of the hotel date to 1957, but the tower must have been built in the 1960's. The tone of the place is set by the exuberance of the tower, all points and angles, with the exclamatory punctuation of the restaurant on top.

Hyatt Regency Pier 66 - A Fort Lauderdale Landmark
Since 1957, the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six has been an icon on the Fort Lauderdale skyline. Pier 66's evolution began when it was originally purchased by Phillips Petroleum with the vision of building a fueling station for watercraft.

A luxury marina and yacht club were soon developed, and a 100-room motel was later added. By 1965, a 17-story tower overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway was completed; it was hailed as an architectural and engineering masterpiece. The "timeless crown" at the top of the tower became one of the most famous cocktail lounges in South Florida, offering 360-degree views of Fort Lauderdale as the floor circulated once every 66 minutes.

Today, fresh from a $30 million renovation and a new member of the LXR Luxury Resorts & Hotels collection, the Hyatt's new look gives a nod to its original era with a luxurious retro-modern design and a legendary Fort Lauderdale attraction. Imagine a group event in the 3,000-square-foot Pier Top! you will get a great view of pier 66 from the fort lauderdale boat tour!

With the full-service Spa 66, a 127-slip marina, fine and casual dining, entertainment options and a multitude of recreation and teambuilding options nearby, the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six stands ready to host memorable group functions. And after a transformation that respects and pays homage to its colorful history, it once again shines in the Fort Lauderdale skyline.
